Welcome back: We Miss you!!!
We are hoping to welcome you back to this second installation of our rooted class where we get deeper together and experience another cycle of seasons on the land at Broad Wing Farm together.
This series of 4 classes is our foray into teaching body systems through an energetic lens while still staying rooted to the plants and the seasons. During class meetings we’ll also have a tea tasting, a plant walk, a plant sit and an herbal treat or two, as you are used to from our 2021 class. Our teaching topics will focus on body systems, as well as recipes and plants that relate to these and we also plan to discuss formulating and drop dosing (any plant extract!). We will present a new materia medica for each class. Each class will run from 9 AM to 4 PM (1/2 hour longer than last year -- more time for hands-on activities!).
Here's some more details:
March 19 – In our first class, we’ll focus on the digestive system. We’ll also talk about fire, digestive fires and otherwise, and open class with a fire ritual. Food is the first medicine. Herbs are powerful and can shift all sorts of patterns but everything we ingest has an energetic and an effect. We’ll focus on broths and ferments and touch on cleanses/fasts.
April 9 – We’ll talk about the nervous system, pain and pleasure and share some info that will help you situate Cannabis/CBD and your own endogenous cannabinoid system. We’ll talk about nervine herbs and formulation. And Water: we’ll share recipes for calming steams and a whole ‘nother level of bathing.
(there’s a big gap in time here! It’s filled in with our Plants as Teachers series. Check that out here)
August 20 – This is the month where we discuss the endocrine system, cycles, and menopause and also the earth element. We will discuss adaptogens that affect our stress response and our hormones. There are some very sensually delectable treats that tend to our endocrine system and we’ll enjoy these in our recipe session.
September 17 – For our last meeting we talk about the respiratory system & the air element. In TCM, autumn is associated with the metal element and the lungs and large intestine. How do these correlations make sense and offer a beautiful lens for this season of letting go? We’ll talk about breath and work with steams & poultices and plasters for breath.
Major differences between this year and last year:
As always, if you have questions or need help making this work for you, please reach out to us.
We hope you can join us for both this series & our 3-class Plants as Teachers Series and there is a discount if you attend both. Check it out below!

Major differences between this year and last year:
- A baby will attend class, at least part time. Baby Runa will be continuing to learn with you, this time outside of the womb. She’s ready for level 2.
- Your own research and exploration is invited. Don’t be scared away by this. If attending class and soaking it up in person is all you have time for, you will still get a lot out of this season of classes! However, if this is the right time for you to go deeper, we’ll ask you to research one plant from a list of beauties and present a materia medica to our group.
- Our second invitation is for you to research your ancestral herbs. This exploration can take many forms and doesn’t need to be confined to any existing definition of herbalism. After all, herbalism wasn’t a neatly defined topic for our ancestors – it was part of the whole fabric of their lives. For example, I’ve recently been working to get more family stories about the Norwegian branch of my family tree and trying to understand better where they came from and why. This was initially inspired by watching an awesome TV show in Norwegian with a modern take on Norwegian mythology. I have aspirations to go deeper and I’m flirting with getting a book on the history of herbal medicine in Norway. I love the idea of my body being tuned to the sounds of the language that my great-great-grandmother spoke, and of working closely with the same plants that she would’ve been surrounded with.
